Costa Riiiica! Pura viida!!

So wife and I decided to go to Costa Rica last October 2011. Wifey planned the whole trip but was a little shady with the itenerary, she said it was a surprise. I was looking forward to create landscape images and do some macro photography. I was able to do some but it was more humid that I'm used to so I decided to leave my dslr in the bag for most of the trip. The above photo is from a 4yr old PS (point-and-shoot) Plus it was too freaking big to carry around during our excursions; it also rained most of the time! I love the rain but my dslr hates it! We hates it! Anyway, I don't have that many dslr pics but I hope you enjoy what I was able to shoot.
When we arrived in CR, we drove straight to La Fortuna. The image above was the view from our hotel patio. I was looking forward to shoot on a very lush vegetation... It started raining after that shot that lasted for an hour or so...
Our first excursion was zip lining in the cloud forest of Monte Verde (a must go!), 2-3hr one-way from La Fortuna. Before we geared up for zip lining, we visited the Herpetarium and saw several species of frogs and serpents.
There was no chance in hell to shoot in Monte Verde... There was freaking mist everywhere; it was also rainy. As a photographer, it was a nightmare, but as a traveler and adventurer, I LOVED IT!
That was the first time I zip lined. It was simply awesome. It is a must! Quick Tip: If you have snowboarding goggles, bring it. If you have an adventure camera like a Go Pro or Contour HD, bring it! X
In the area, there was a Butterfly Garden, Insect Museum, and Hummingbird Garden. I wish I stopped by there. Then again, it wouldn't be good for the dslr (it's not weather sealed).
Another excursion was a light to medium hike around the rain forest in La Fortuna. Guess what? It rained.
Hiking around the rain forest was an great experience. Quick Tip: Let the tour guide walk in front...just in case. I'm not kidding! Wifey and I walked ahead from the tour guide a few minutes later, he shouted saying he found a venomous snake. It was small but venomous nonetheless. We back tracked and took a picture using the PS. Luckily, the snake was not on path.
Imagine walking in a green dense vegetation. What are the chances of you identifying the snake above?
Above are a few more snake pics just for kicks. Post processing these snake images were slightly disconcerting.
One morning, my wife called me to the bathroom to check out a very small visitor. Knowing that these were the only times I can shoot, I took out my 100mm.
Anyway, we have a lot of PS pics but I'm not going to post those here. Quick Tip: Bring a waterproof camera! I forgot to bring the water case! Aside from hiking and zip lining, we bathed on hot springs (Tabacon), we rode on horseback, we inner tubed down a river, walked on hanging bridges, ATVed, and rappelled down (and climbed up) a cliff. I want to do it again!
Above is an HDR of the inside of San Jose Airport. We didn't want to leave CR. The people were friendly. The tour guides were fun. We got to know them because in most of our excursions we were the only ones there! We would go there again during the low season! Last Quick Tip: Go to a bar and ask for an order of chifrijo and your favorite beer. Do it!
And finally a timelapse. There's a lot of room for improvement but hey, not bad for a Picasa product right? I'm starting to get addicted to this kind of stuff but I'm very hesitant to do it. It adds additional wear and tear on the dslr.... my camera broke after this timelapse run!!! I paid $$$ to have Canon replace the whole shutter mechanism. It's all good now but I'll never do a timelapse run on my "new" 5d2.

Chad and Cyndi
"From the halls of Montezuuuummma...To the shores of Tripoooliiii." Happy Belated Birthday Marines! Today's post is about a husband and wife who wanted to do a photoshoot before attending a Marine Corps Ball.
>>Break!<< What am I doing? I've been sitting here for a few minutes trying to say something interesting and/or intelligent. This blog isn't my portfolio or how good I think these shots are. This is a diary of my struggle as I learn photography.
It is tough! It's not about having the best camera body, the best lens, or even having several awesome shots. I know I have several of the latter...riightt? rrrriiiggghtt? =)
What is it really about? For me, it's all about the attitude. It's about how you can make your model/client/subject/talent be comfortable/confident/interested during the photoshoot.
It is a struggle for me. I pray that I get good shots and that I can find their natural emotion. Hmmmm. I might have found my photography mantra, "Capturing the natural emotion." I haven't googled if someone else have it but just so you know, I just came up with it right now!
I want to capture the emotion that they want to evoke during the photoshoot. I want to capture that natural smile; that natural kiss; that sense of longing; that sense of bliss? Sure, all that good stuff.
I am genuinely concerned that they are having a good time. Don't let the fire burn out. It is a must!
I strive to keep that photographer-to-subject relationship thriving. A little tilt your head here, move your hand there, and look over there. Voila! You can print that on canvas.
So to reiterate, this is my blog and I can post what I want to. This is my struggle as a photographer.
As the hour long photoshoot with Chad and Cyndi winded down, they wanted to have a few photos with their lovely doggies. I love dogs. My wife and I have two pugs.
Chad/Cyndi, thanks for trusting me to take your photos. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
Oh by the way. I shot these using an X2ti (thanks 'dre!). My goto DSLR broke when my wife and I went to Costa Rica! My DSLR is fixed now, Canon replaced the entire shutter mechanism. If you are still reading this sentence. You. are. awesome. Clickety-clack that Like button if you like gummy bears; yes it doesn't make sense. >_<
